Shadow Games is the title of the series of projection
works, designed to celebrate the city of Birmingham's
hosting of the 9th IAAF World Championships in Athletics
and the city's nomination for European Capital of Culture
2008. Inspiration for the projections came from the
groundbreaking work of the eccentric 19th century inventor
Eadweard Muybridge. His experiments with tripwire-operated
cameras increased our understanding of how animals and
people move through space. The inventor's eleven volume
photographic work, "Animal Locomotion", also radically
influenced the art of the twentieth century. Shadow
Games was conceived and designed by The Renn & Thacker
Partnership LLP and filmed and edited with video artists
Ravi Deepres and George Saxon. Costumes were designed
and made by Kay Wilton.
