West Midlands Passenger Transport Authority Centro has,
over the last eight years, developed a proven track
record in delivering public art as part of major public
transport projects and has commissioned more than 40
projects from a range of local, regional, national and
international artists. These range from small scale
features such as screen printed designs on booking hall
glazing panels to a 32 foot stainless steel mythological
horse jumping from a vantage point next to the new Midland
Metro line. Centro is committed to including artists,
craftspeople and designers in major capital projects
and this commitment is underpinned by corporate policy
and the recently formed Public Art Working Party, constituted
by leading district council members.
The Linkspots are ten information points located over
seven different transport interchange locations in the
Greater Birmingham area. Each of the ten information
points now hosts a ‘specially commissioned site-specific
artwork.
