Commission by Centro passenger transport authority to design a fence, height restrictor and a sculpture. The design root for the scheme was nearby Galton Bridge.
At the time it was built, Galton Bridge was the largest single span bridge over the largest man made cutting in the World. In addition to the bridge itself, Galton Valley also houses the oldest working locks in the Country and once housed the glassworks, which made all of the glass for the crystal palace.
Once a busy highway providing the raw materials for the Black Country factories, the Valley's two canals are now popular routes for holidaymakers on hire boats and cyclists using the towpath as a traffic free route into Birmingham.
The designs of the fence and height restrictor are based upon the reflection in the canal of the Victorian ironworks on the bridge.
The sculpture “Moon Trap” is a lyrical representation of the reflection a crescent moon ‘caught’ in the ripples of the canal beneath the bridge.
