The Acme Meteor is the latest development in more than
a century of whistle design and production by Birmingham
based J. Hudson & Co. The unique flying whistle has
an impressive pedigree including such classics as the
Acme Thunderer and the Baden Powell Boy Scout whistle.
The two metre long, brass plated, winged wonder will
be suspended from a host aeroplane with its pilot and
co-pilot seated. At a height of approximately ten thousand
feet the whistle will be released and accelerate rapidly
on its way back to earth. When the necessary velocity
is reached, the rush of air through a turbine impeller
will blow the whistle, resulting in a volume of sound
never before achieved by any whistle in history. To
increase the length of the descent, the two pilots will
navigate The Acme Meteor
through a long spiralling flight.
